Doing a long distance search without someone on the ground to give you current housing info on subdivsions is not a good thing. Reason, there are a lot of new/newer houses with problem subdivisions due to the economy. Some may have unfinished houses, empty lots, etc. Some may never be finished. Some may be questionable builders. You need to carefully consider the quality of the newer homes also.

That said, I have thought that Plainfield has a great family feel. I have driven past lots of park land with a lot of children's equipment and they have a lot of new/newer subdivisions in all price ranges. New outdoor type mall, Metropolis, close to other stores in Avon, better commute than Fishers. There are several all brick subdivisions in the route I take that have good landscaping and nice sized lots. Also a lot of plain ugly vinyl subdivisons with foreclosure issues. So watch out doing long distance checking.

There is a whole lot of Indy to consider and a whole lot of subdivisons. I think there are over 28,000 homes on the multiple listing service.

Once you choose a side of town, there will be no problem finding a home.

I have contacted a realtor and am waiting for a reply, given her the specifics I am looking for. I was thinking the Avon and Plainfield area actually, but am still not finding much in the way of newer homes. I did see Metropolis on the map and it seemed like a relatively easy commute, pretty straight. Are there any good local realty websites that I should be looking at? I've found Realtor.com has a very small representation of what is really out there, but am also having a hard time finding a good realty site other than them or the usuals.

The one everyone uses is mibor.com. It is the multiple listing service. At least you wont be bombarded with advertising or have to answer questions to view listings.

I found 29 homes from 2006-2009 at $175000-200000 in eastern Hendricks County but noticed a common problem. Unfinished subdivisions. The aerial photographs show the newer/new homes from 2006-2009 in the MLS are often in unfinished subdivisions.

Check out #2926166 on the mls. Brick and high end for under $200,000. But you need to expand out of 2006-2009 but not by much.

A decent number of homes in Avon, especially around the shopping centers, are less than 5 years old, even more less than 10 and more than I care to try to count are less than 15 years old. There is still an market for brand-new homes in the area, its just not what it was a few years ago, much like the rest of the country. I imagine now that Ronald Reagan Parkway is open all the way more subdivisions will start to pop up along it any day now as the world market stabilizes.
