If I were a police officer and saw one or more individuals openly carrying firearms, that creates a reasonable suspicion of things being amiss. I would stop and question them to make sure that things were legit. This should be the saying: "If you want to talk to a cop just carry openly."

As for the purpose of the Open Carry Gun walk in downtown Indy last Saturday, that requires a public explanation, especially to those who witnessed it and were scratching their heads wondering what was going on. Maybe one of the organizers can come on here and explain. I hope no one is called a Lefty for asking for an explanation. The organizer should take it as an opportunity to explain to the public the purpose of their walk.

The odds of me ever needing a gun are so infinitesimal that I will go ahead and take my chances without one.

None of us can bring back dead victims of homicides but I bet if we could each one would say "I only wish that I had had a gun." That includes the Lawrence school teacher who was stabbed in the heart inside her home a couple of weeks ago,

Assuming she had time to get to it before being attacked. Or, assuming she wasn't robbed first, the gun found, then used against her.

That would be incorrect. The SCOTUS has ruled there is no gun exception to Terry. Merely carrying a firearm when it is legal does not constitute a legitimate reason to detain a person, and doing so is a violation of 4th Amendment rights, opening the officers up to lawsuits under the civil rights act of 1871 and also possibly criminal charges afterwards. A NM police department is paying up some money over this, in a recent case: Alamogordo police pay $21,000 to settle open carry lawsuit

The judge also stripped the officers involved of their qualified immunity.

I'll stand by my opinion. A police officer would be remiss in his duties if he failed to stop and question someone who was openly carrying a firearm.

An officer doing so would be violating civil rights and committing a felony.
