Seriously, the two that come to mind are Columbus and Kansas City.

I suppose Columbus. never been to Kansas City. I'm thinking of other midwestern cities,. Chicago, St, Louis, Cincy, Cleveland, Detroit, Louisville - none of those are IMo similar to Indy. So I guess Columbus is the closest one - but their downtown is not nearly as nice. pLus Columbus is a college town more or less

Definitely Columbus, OH. The distribution of wealth, the size of the cities, and the areas in which population has settled in relationship to downtown are almost identical. Even the suburbs on the same sides of town are almost identical in personality/character. I would though echo the comment by BU191433 that downtown Columbus is not nearly as nice or interesting as downtown Indy.

I echo Columbus. Both have been annexed to, both are the only two major cities in the midwest that keep growing in population, and both have lucrative defense finance centers that not only have survived the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure but are adding thousands of jobs. They also both have more of a white collar job market than a manufacturing base. Their outer neighborhoods in the city limits have a very suburban feel and both have full circle outerbelts and most of the the suburban areas outside those outerbelts are newer and more sprawl like. They only major difference IMO is that Indy has a NFL pro team ( Colts) and C-bus is more college football ( Buckeyes- and Ohio State is one of major universities in the country).
