Escaping atlanta
Well, i'm glad i'm not the only Atlantan escaping north. I have visited
Indianapolis twice staying a week each time and enjoying your wonderful traffic. Me and wife spent some time researching where to move. We moved to Atlanta in 1980 from Florida. But this city is a mess.
It came down to a toss-up between Columbus, Oh. I was born in
Tacoma, my wife in Cincinnatti. This city closes down on a drop
of rain or snow. I am a C.P.A. and have tried to find a job online without
success but now just coming up job or no job. We will looking on the
Southside, what neighborhoods should we avoid. How is Lawrenceville
for crime etc. My wife is allergic to pollen and pollution.
Are there ares to avoid because of pollution. Any old industrial sites
around the south or east side. Does the Car track create a lot of pollution?
Thanks for your advice

Indy has two possibilities for accountants, although rough to get into. Defense Dept Finance (DFAS) has their huge facility here on the NE side of Indianapolis and Customs has a big facility (plus other Homeland Security offices). I was just talking to someone from the last agency and they are looking for accountants due to growth. It takes forever to get hired with the Federal government but the job security is great. Wages will start low but the upward scale is whatever you make it. Having a CPA will give you the foot in the door.
Just an idea. Most people wont consider it due to lower starting salaries but if you dont have a job and are looking, it is worth a look. And keep your eyes open, dont limit yourself to a single location as the jobs are all over.

Indiana can be kind of harrowing for allergy sufferers. We had someone here a couple years ago who CLAIMED they could smell the mold from the interstate .... or something like that. Well, I don't know about that, but friends who have moved here from dryer climates all have a good allergist they consult on a regular basis. As for pollution, I don't think there's anything too extreme.

I have real bad allergies in the spring. Get your Kleenex ready; come May no amount of OTC medication will help. It gets worse the further south you go.

Well, Atlanta is in the top 10 for pollen almost every year. We get this yellow stuff that coats
your cars and it last for months. It starts at the end of March and runs into June.
So anything will be better.
Yes, I have filed an application with DFAS but who knows if I will ever get a human response.

MikiJayne since your a realtor maybe you can answer this question. My wife has this idea that
she would like to live in an apartment above a store or deli. My internet searches have shown nothing is there such a thing anymore? any in Indianapolis? I have looked at your lofts but the
prices are sky high like here.

There are some on Massachusets Ave (I don't know how to spell that, around here we call is Mass Ave) and on College above Luna. There are some in Carmel too, which is just North of the city.

Housing: This is not NYC.
Jobs: A friend who just retired from Roche Pharm and has a CPA has just told me she has gotten numerous offers of work thru two temp agencies. You might try that for awhile to get your foot in the door.

Actually they are building whole neighbors here with stores, offices and restaurants on the bottom.
And fancy condos and townhouses on top.
Actually she is form Cincinnatti and had a friend that lived over a deli. Why I don't know.
