Krock, you're on thin ice. You're all over this forum bashing other cities, so you have no grounds to make absurd statements like this. Consider yourself watched.

hold it there ... you have NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF FREE SPEECH ON THIS SITE. This is a privately owned moderated message board. Seriously, get a brain. You can have an opinion, but we can too.
But bringing up your perceived 1st amendment rights makes you look like you don't have much knowledge.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As far as apartment living is concerned, you may be interested in Riley Towers. They offer great views, and you can walk to everything. Mass Ave is close by and has fun little shops and theatres.
There are quite a few sports bars downtown. As far as baseball allegiances are concerned there is no dominant team, so people choose to follow nearby teams like the Cardinals, Reds, etc. (I too am a Yankees fan!!)
Again, as a young professional, the downtown scene should be adequate for what you're looking for. IMO, Broad Ripple is overrated, and seems to attract the less mature (i.e. college-aged) crowd.
The closest mall to downtown is Lafayette Square, but as already noted you probably shouldn't go there. Castleton is one of the largest shopping corridors in the Midwest and is located off 82nd and Allisonville, perhaps 10 miles or so from Downtown. Try not to go on a weekend or during the evening rush hour, because it is VERY congested.

What domergurl said.
You can always gauge the maturity level of a forumer based on how they respond to possible disciplinary action.

Downtown is awesome. Good choice. $1500 will get you a lot of apartment in Indianapolis, and there are some awesome places in the downtown area as well as houses for rent on the near north side.
As far as names go, check out Harness Factory Lofts, The Waverly and Riley Towers (not super upscale but the tallest residential highrises in Indy) to start with. As you move west toward IUPUI, you'll encounter more of a college/grad school crowd which will match well with you age-wise if you're in your twenties. Check out Canal Square and Canal Overlook.
Actually, here is a link you will undoubtedly find helpful: Indianapolis Downtown, Inc.

Try Ale Emporium in Castleton. It's a little bit of a haul from downtown, but it's a cool place to catch a game and the pizza is awesome.
In the immediate downtown area, try Scotty's Brewhouse (Virginia Ave.), Coaches, Hooters (always a favorite no matter what city...), and Champps.
There are baseball fans in Indy but don't expect the same atmosphere as a baseball city. Fair warning.

Broad Ripple bars are a good place to meet girls, but it is more of a college scene. That's Butler University's bar scene, and most of the college-age people and fresh grads flock there.
Downtown bars are less of a "meat market," which is why my wife and I and our other married/committed friends prefer them. I can't advise beyond that because I'm married and haven't had any experience with the singles scene for several years now.

Circle Center mall is downtown, but it is geared more towards fashion, not big-ticket items. Other malls are dotted all over the metro area, mostly in the 'burbs. Castleton Mall is the closest "nice" mall to downtown, and it is on the far northeast corner of the city right before you hit the 'burbs. They should have everything you need there. Greenwood, on the south side, has Greenwood Park, but I don't know much about it because I'm a northsider.
Good luck, Welcome to Indy!
