Default Greenfield?

In reading posts about good towns near Indianapolis to live in I don't think that I have seen Greenfield mentioned very often. Would it be a good town to live in? Do they have good restaurants and shopping etc?
Thanks

Greenfield is growing. The corridor along state road 9 between 70 & the main downtown has shopping and restaurants everywhere. Greenfield itself is very charming with convenient access to Indy. The only problem is that you'll have the sun in your eyes both ways if doing the 9-5 commute.

Hi

We live in a small town about 15 miles east of Greenfield. I do all my weekly grocery shopping in Greenfield. I'm just as close to New Castle, but I prefer Greenfield. They have a variety of restaurants; chains and family owned. They have an awesome movie theater...it's clean and safe with new release movies! The town is safe and the crime rate is low. People around here call it "Handcuff County" instead of "Hancock County". There have been many housing additions added over the years and some of the older homes are gorgeous!! Every October they have 'Riley Days'; they close down the main street (US40) and some side streets and have booths for vendors: crafts, food, woodworking, etc. It's always fun. They have a boys and girls club, variety of great doctors, the hospital is nice (had all three of my sons there) and some factory's are located there. The schools are great from what I've heard. You will find north of 40 nicer than south side of 40...well that's my opinion anyways and almost all of the shopping and restaurants are located north of US40 clustered around State Road 109 (which leads you to 70). My husband makes the commute to Indy from our little town every day (and has for about 20 years) and he likes living East of Indy...your drive to work; the sun is behind you. Your drive home; the sun is behind you!

My brother in law lives right outside of Greenfield on 9. My wife also worked there in Greenfield about 10 years ago.

Between going out to by BiL's place and various other things my opinion is mixed. It is a drive from Indy, so to me it's still a small rural town. I hate to use this term but I think that it fits. If you have a problem with rednecks, Greenfield is not for you.

That being said, it does have everything that you need and it is growing. To me, it's too small and isolated. I guess that I've lived in Indy for too long.

And for the record, I grew up in Lafayette and a few of my friends were farmers, so that part of Greenfield does not bother me
