Default Greyhound bus ... ?

Am looking to ride the Greyhound bus from Indy to Fort Lauderdale during spring break. Was interested to know if anyone has taken the bus out of Indy? Am curious about cleanliness, safety, condition of bus, etc. Airfares right now are ridiculously expensive and my kids were pretty excited to take this different form of transportation. Any opinions/suggestions would be appreciated!

You have never ridden on the Greyhound? Well, you will be in for a treat. I won't go into the details, but there is a good thread about the bus on the travel forum. People stink on long rides, and buses break down.

I hate the Greyhound, but I will do it if it saves me money. However, I looked a few weeks ago at prices from Indy to Miami, and it was about $40 more for me to fly. THe train was about the same price, I believe.

my friend rode the Greyhound from Indy to New Orleans a few years ago and it was anything but romantic. She reported there were a couple of times when the bus emptied of people - including the bus driver - except for her and 1 other guy, and he was grinning at her from the front of the bus and yelling back that there was nobody else there. She felt she had no choice but to ride out the trip but said she'd definitely not travel that way again. She did not feel safe overall.

I rode the Greyhound to Indy from St. Louis once after my plane was delayed and then we missed our last connecting flight. It wasn't so bad for a *short* trip. Beats sleeping on an airport floor. But I'd be hesitant about going cross-country on a bus.
