Not necessarily. If an adult wants to give a 14/15 year old money, they can. Obviously I wouldn't want my teenager to have access to that kind of money on their own, but that is legal. A minor can't engage in a contract though. I personally would hope for criminal charges, but I can't, and wouldn't, force any teenager to testify if they didn't want to. I would hope the prosecutor's office would feel the same, though they have the power of subpoena if they really want to push it.

Great point. The thing is, how much do you _honestly_ think a person would win in this case? We see settlement after settlement in the tens of thousands for folks victimized by cops. And remember, filing a lawsuit would likely mean an attorney would take more of a cut than if you just accepted a check and hired a lawyer for one hour to review the paperwork.

I am hoping some sort of resolution comes quickly. The longer it takes to investigate, the worst things appear to the public.
I'm not wrong ... the victims are minors ... the parents can pursue the case even if their child doesn't want to. If the parents decide not to pursue it because their child wants it to go away, then so be it, but my point is that the parents are the ones who hold sway, it's what they decide. You can stuff your "WRONG"s in a sack mr.

Cell phones eww-I read those articals last night by Kent Sterling, I hadn't heard the cell phone thing before-to bad 911 didn't get dialed accidently.

another thing I'm wondering is why isn't the prosecutor from whatever county (around Cloverdale) getting involved with this since it happened in that jurisdiction, seems like they would be less prejudiced.

I can well imagine how the investigation is coming along. One coach who was riding on the school bus with the team was likely asked: Did you hear or see anything during the bus trip? Response: Well, I heard a muffled ringing sound but wasn’t sure what it was or where it was coming from.

Now that's an angle I did not think of. Interesting.

I can see this exchange now.

"Daddy, I was just raped by some rich kids"

"How rich are they?"

"DADDY, you don't understand..."

"Yes I do understand, I understand that I...er, I mean you, can get a lot of money if they are rich....just think...you could drive a new car and I will not have to pay for your college."

"But dad, they raped me."

"Well my darling daughter, we all have to make sacrifices. Now leave me alone, I am calling a lawyer."

"What about calling the police?"

"Yeah right, the police....my bad."

I would think the victims being Carmelites wouldn't need to make a monetary deal-don't they already have enough money for college and cars?

Not everyone in Carmel is rich. Besides, even wealthy families and people have rights.
