Question Safety/Hotels on Edge of "Beltway"

I'm traveling to Indianapolis for work and have found a few hotels that fit my budget. What I'd like to know is whether or not any of these locations should be avoided at all costs, or which might be most preferable for safety:

1) Northwest: Near intersect of 465/421 on 86th st.
2) East: Just outside the "beltway" intersect of 465/70 on Post Dr.
3) South: South of the beltway off 65 near Greenwood

Any warnings or recommendations of these would be great, thanks!

I think I would scratch off the one on Post Road. That area gives me the creeps.

South is probably the safest, followed by Northwest. Avoid the East side.

The area around 25th and Post is just fine. Don't let the fright brigade scare you off.

2030 N. Post Road is where that pregnant bank teller was shot a couple of years ago. Not my kind of neighborhood.

Option #1 is probably going to be your best option. It's in the corner of Indy that's closest to Chicago so unless you're doing business on the east or south side, you might as well stay there on 86th. Most of the hotels up that way are just fine. The Holiday Inn there comes to mind.

Greenwood is probably going to be fine, and you would probably be okay at the one on Post Rd as well. That area around post though, while not entirely dangerous, is going to be noticeably more shady than the other two options you mentioned.

You will be fine at all three locations. The odds of an incident happening at Post Road during your stay are infinitesimally higher than the other two, but still lower than getting struck by small-engine Cessna at some point in your life.

There are more restaurants/stores/access at the Michigan Road/421 spot all within about 1/4 mile. As a woman, I would feel safe walking the "frontage road from the hotels to the other spots. Einsteins Bagels on 86th across from Walmart is a nice place to grab a snack.

Fewer places on the Post and Greenwood locations to walk to.

I can't speak for the other two areas, but the area around Michigan Rd and 86th St isn't too bad. My fiancee and I are actually getting married at the Holiday Inn this summer. It's really nice on the inside. There's also an Embassy Suites right there along with several other hotels and a lot of restaurants. Plus a big office park that includes the Pyramids, which are a pretty prominent landmark in Indianapolis.

Since you are coming from Chicago, northwest would be your first option if your work is in the area. This area would be the first you would come to when entering the city. It is safe and there are a few restaurants in the surrounding area.

You can actually travel west on 86th Street and I-465 to Traders Point and enjoy more dining and movies. It is also close to I-65. Enjoy your stay.
