Frankly, I'd put having a safe place to live above having a cool car. Any way you can save up a couple thousand bucks in cash and buy a "daily driver"?

Secondly, is a roommate an option? I have a friend who lives in Broad Ripple proper. I believe she pays ~$800 a month for a small two bedroom.

Well I don't plan on getting a brand new car. It will definitely be used (2000 and up) and I just want one that's reliable because mine always breaks down on me. And I really don't want a roommate because I like living alone but I just might have to end up doing that...

MissingIndiana, my job is located on Pendleton Pike and I wouldn't mind doing a 20-25 minute drive.

Might I suggest looking at Williamsburg North Apartments? They are on 62nd street between Binford and Allisonville. The apartments aren't the nicest in town and some minor crime does happen in the area from time to time, but I can't think of anything better you will find for the price. They have a 1 bedroom 787 sq ft. apartment listed for $562-575 per month, but that it states that for utilities "Gas Heating, Water Heating & cooking are included, along with water, trash & sewer utilities". All you would have is an electric bill, and that isn't even the main utility in the apartment.

I lived there from around 2004-2005 while I was at Butler and never felt too unsafe. It's got pretty much everything you would need nearby and would put you within 20-25 minutes of the Pendleton Pike area if you head down Binford and across 56th street. That way you would be avoiding a lot of the Keystone/I-69/I-465 traffic.

The link is floor | (http://genebglick.com/floorplan.asp?Page=floorplan&FPID=39115&AID=16912 - broken link)

The name of the link came up looking funny, but it will take you directly to the 1 bedroom floorplan on the company's website.

Okay I found some apartments off of 75th and Ditch Road. I have no clue what kind of area that is. Please someone tell me that neighborhood/area is okay to live in.

Default Crime and apt advice

Dim- Regarding crime, I found the following site helpful:
Crime in your neighborhood -- 2008
Regarding apartments - many often offer a first month free on a one-year lease. Even if it's note advertised I'd negotiate for the free month. The apartment market here now seems to favor the renter, although this is just my anecdotal observation based on signs offering free months, utilities, zero deposits, etc,
Good luck.
Name is maybemover because that is what I signed up for before moving to Indy.

75th and Ditch in general is an ok area, but you have to be mindful that some apartments in that area are in bad shape.

I also wonder about someone who thinks of 75th and Ditch as being within commuting range of a job, but 91st and Ditch isn't?

The reviews I read on 91st and Ditch weren't that great anyway. Plus I'm thinking about transferring jobs to be closer if I move on that side of town but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I was kinda wondering the same thing. 75th and Ditch is a decent area, but it is quite a way from Pendleton Pike.

Is Meridian Lakes Apartments in bad shape? That's another complex I'm considering.
