Default Coming to Indy to check out some areas to live

I have an appointment to see something in the Meridian Kessler area. Just north of 38th street. I am told the street the house is on is great but that some surrounding areas are....sketchy. Anyone live down there that could give me a run down of that area and if the neighborhood is worth checking out. Thanks.

Generally speaking, the streets between Meridian Street and College Avenue are pretty nice in that area of the city. East of College or west of Meridian are both pretty sketchy around there. There are some very nice, very expensive older homes on the blocks between 38th and 46th Streets, but for the most part, it is safer north of 46th. I advise you to check out the block and just consider your surroundings.

The closer you get to 38th street, the sketchier it gets. I agree with dave.dawsn mostly, although I would say that things are still pretty nice on the west side of Meridian, more so once you get up to 42nd street or so and the area between Meridian and Butler University.

Most of the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood is fine and there are some very nice older homes and mansions, particularly within 1-2 blocks of Meridian. The public schools are IPS which isn't great, and as mentioned things get rougher down near 38th st. I would feel safe living in the general area, just use some common sense, don't be wondering around alone at night, etc.

I agree 100%. I was referring more to the area between 38th Street and Butler.
