Is anyone else starting to get a little tired of Google "jazzing up" the google.com home page One of the reasons I and I think many others started using it was that nice, simple, CLEAN page that had a search bar and that's it.

Then they starting getting cute w/the "Google" word on holidays. OK, just a few times a year, no big.

Then they started adding more "minor" holidays. Then it was celebrating various historical people's birthdays. etc etc etc, more and more.

Now today is the worst yet IMO - some odd Christmas-looking thing (in June?) is there and far as I can tell doesn't even have a reason. ??

If some like the cutesy video game effects, fine, but couldn't they at least have a link for "Google classic" for those of us who liked the clean, professional, business-like interface that didn't look like it was designed by high school kids?

EDIT: I just went back and the Christmas thing is gone. Now it's a mountain sunset. sigh

They are about to lose me if I can't figure out a why to block that stupid image from loading. I feel bad for people who are on dial up still, Google would take a long time just to load the home page.

Don't bother. After today, it'll be an option. Today only, it's the default.

Oh, so it is OK that they are annoying me only for one day? Well, that's different!

They just made my s**tlist and as soon as there is a better option out there, I am taking it. I may take today and see how Yahoo is working.

I'm going Richard Nixon on them and adding them to my "Enemies List".

Thanks for the link, Bowie but not finding the Editor's Pick section when I click on the "change background image" button. Oh well, luckily I am the stoic type. haha.

Google Kills Its Homepage Background Image Experiment Early

Quote:
Now Google has apparently decided that imposing a background image on users wasn’t such a good idea after all, and they’ve turned off their experiment around ten hours early according to a tweet from Marrisa Mayer, Google’s Vice President of Search Product and User Experience. Users that visit the Google homepage are now shown the normal design, along with a link that says “Curious about today’s homepage? Add your own background image now”.
