This is a really cool and informative/interesting link. I have the Mapping Tool set for my area of Sarasota, Florida. All you have to do is type in your City Or Area to see the crime types and locations for the past week.

You can also sign up for crime alerts in your area.....if you wish.

Here is the link>>>>>

You're in one of very, very few places in the country that participates in this. There are only two towns in Texas that have it, one in Illinois, three in Georgia.

That one does not seem very accurate. It said zero crimes over the last 30 days in my area when www.crimereports.com shows 6.

I tried both sites, neither could find any crimes in our township.

The second site I was able to get it to review from 1jan2010 to today, whereas the first would only go back 30-days.

You can't get back to the site's main portal from the link provided. You have to go to

Crime Mapping - Building Safer Communities!

and click on your state. Then you will get a (very tiny) list of the localities in your state that are participating.

You are correct and I noticed very FEW cities are participating in this endeavor. Perhaps this is a wake up call and everyone should demand that their Police Department in their municipality submit data for this potentially very useful anti-crime tool.

Sarasota has a very .....shall we say......poorly rated Police Force.....I am really surprised we are one of the first participants; perhaps to boost public support?????. Let's all demand the data to help protect ourselves and our property!.

Big Brother is watching...

While it might be useful for people moving into an area, it is otherwise a pretty silly exercise in fear. I note that your fair city had a "disturbing the peace" listed. Whoopdy flip. Disturbing the peace can be a kid with fireworks and a tired cop, or a drunk sumo wrestler.
