The internet is simply networks connecting across the telco's infrastructure. so in a sense, yes they did build the physical internet. just not for that purpose.

I'm not following you here; of course they put up the poles, if not they lease them from whatever utility owns them (like the power company). And utilities fix their own infrastructure when it breaks, not taxpayers. When you say county workers fix it, are you talking about a municipal owned utility? that's the only instance in which that should be happening. and your monthly utility payments include maintenance costs.

I think you're trying to separate ISP's from the utilities that own the infrastructure. If your ISP is not one of the major telco's, they're leasing bandwidth from whoever owns it, like at&t worldnet services, etc. . .

No pirating, just lots of video streaming. Mostly via netflix.

Considering that the Internet is a global network, best of luck with that.

The Pacific Telegraph Act is the foundation for net neutrality.

Pacific Telegraph Act of 1860 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The Pacific Telegraph Act of 1860 called for the facilitation of communication between the east and west coasts of the United States of America. Hiram Sibley of the Western Union Telegraph Company won the contract. In 1861, Benjamin Franklin Ficklin joined Hiram Sibley in helping to form the Pacific Telegraph Company of Nebraska. At the same time, Jeptha Wade was asked by Hiram Sibley to consolidate smaller telegraph companies in California. While the Pacific Telegraph Company built west from Omaha, Nebraska, the Overland Telegraph Company of California was thus formed and built east from Carson City, Nevada. With their connection in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 24, 1861, the final link between the east and west coasts of the United States of America was made by telegraph. The First Transcontinental Telegraph lead to the immediate demise of the Pony Express. The Pacific Telegraph Company and the Overland Telegraph Company of California were eventually absorbed into the Western Union Telegraph Company.

Huh? The constitution was written in 1787. Does that somehow make it invalid or lame, dude?

Yeah, read the act. It applies here too to net neutrality, absolutely! The gov't funded the thousands of miles of infrastructure to implement these poles and lines. Remember AOL and running your internet off a phone line?

Yeah I remember acoustic couplers, --- Idiots who used AOL, whats the point?

Oh, BTW, can you point me to the official "net neutrality law(s)"????

Wiki for one has this:

Quote:
Network neutrality (also net neutrality, Internet neutrality) is a principle proposed for user access networks participating in the Internet that advocates no restrictions by Internet service providers and governments on content, sites, platforms, the kinds of equipment that may be attached, and the modes of communication.[1][2][3]
So it appears there is no "official laws". Get over it, "they" will charge whatever the market will bear for whatever services "they" provide. As has been the rule forever in America, you don't like a business or service take your business somewhere else.

Why aren't you jumping all over the major search engines for their lack of neutrality in their search results?

Why aren't you screaming about web sites being blocked because of their content or political views?

I guess 'tis easier to whine about government/business conspiracy's then to deal with everyday issues......
