Advertisements

This isn't really a pop up but I don't know what else to call it. How do I get rid of these annoying ads that appear over the text of something I am trying to read? I have pop ups blocked in my browser but it has no effect on these floating ads that float onto the screen and obscure what I am trying to read. On most of them there is a very small X somewhere on the ad but there is nothing on this one. I tried clicking both on and outside this ad. Clicking on it opens another browser page for the company. Clicking outside it does nothing. Surely there must be SOME way to stop these things.

Use Firefox and install the Adblock Plus plugin as well as the Noscript plugin. I haven't looked at a pop up ad in a long time on my personal PC.

Thanks. Once the internet was up and running, I decided a computer was definitely in my future. Got my first one in 1997 and have been a computer addict ever since. I have one uncle left--my mother's youngest brother--who, at 94 plays around on his computer much of the day, according to his daughter. He's like me--uses it for entertainment and for keeping in touch with friends.

I installed the Adblock Plus and Noscript......have had far fewer popups since then but the Noscript can be a bit of a problem, in that I must click to allow script on many pages in order to do things like sign in to view my bank statement.

Yes thats the problem... I try to have SCRIPTS DISABLED as much as i possibly can. (Stuff loads faster and its safer) But as you pointed out SOME STUFF DOESNT WORK 100% W/O SCRIPTS (Which is a downer)

God bless your Uncle <<>> Computers (The internet) can be fun if you dont fall victim to scams and stuff...

"Floating" popups continue to be a problem and they are REALLY annoying. (But at least they don't obscure an entire block of text. I can always scroll slowly and read beneath the popup.)
