How do they do this?
Police can detect computers accessing child porn - thestar.com
Wed Mar 09 2011

A one-second snapshot of Internet use on Wednesday morning showed six Oakville computers, seven in Burlington, four in Halton Hills and five in Milton were accessing child pornography sites at that moment, said Det.-Sgt. Brad Cook.

Police also detected 158 computers in Halton that accessed child porn last month, he said.

They could find the source and track the IP addresses that download it. They could even host the source or pretend to have material the offenders would want and host it, then track the IPs that pull the content (entrapment?). The RIAA loves to send out black mail letters for their alleged copyright violations this way. Internet providers can be forced to identify the name connected to the IP address if they are ordered to... I imagine judges would grant this order in a breath for child porn cases.

I figure if they can get real time info on this then they can get real time info on all internet traffic & monitor all internet users.

Then the police must be getting a live feed from local ISPs.

Not likely, search your own IP address and you can get a pretty accurate location. Not exact, but close enough to identify which county you are in (which is all that is stated by the police in your article). The advantage they have is that with compelling evidence courts can force ISPs to reveal your identity.

Freaking scary! I certainly don't condone such sick perversions as cp, but if the police have the technology to do this, surely they (or someone) have the technology to log your SSN, passwords, credit card numbers, etc.

Your ex-wife has that technology too, it is called a key logger (look for unidentified usb devices on the back of your computer! LOL). Also, why do you think viruses are such a threat? That can pilfer data and keystrokes or use your computer as a zombie in their bot network. The scammers and identity thieves have used these tactics for years. The RIAA gathers info to try to earn money through predatory legal threats. If the police are going to come in a decade late and play the same games to get some pervs behind bars, so be it.

If you read the article the technology they are using to identify how many pedos are out there isn't what is new, the Microsoft tracking software that helps keep all pertinent information in a central database is what is making a difference for these police.

I'm also opposed to the immediate executions of all murder suspect. Would you be worried about my own murderous inclinations, for being concerned?

If you came on this forum asking how to clean up a murder scene or ways that your evidence trail could be discovered by the police, then yes.

There are gazillions of porn sites.

Many of them show a category titled 'teens' or 'young'.

There seems to be an assumption that these photos are under-age children? [which I rather doubt]

If all of these photos are illegal; why isn't anyone going after the porn sites?
