Advertisements

I've followed reports about Craigslist in its never-ending battle against spammers and how some categories are more spam than real ads on a regular basis (personals, services, job openings -- for example).

So what's with my 100% record over the last couple of months of responding to what appear to be legitimate ads for sale items in the furniture, bicycle, sporting, household, and farm/garden categories and getting Mailer-Daemons in response to my email inquiries labelled "Undeliverable Due To Excessive Spam Complaints."

I mean, not ONE of my emails has gotten through to the intended ad poster! Since so many people who post on CL don't include a phone number or separate email address to contact them, I've reached the point of ignoring any ad without them, even if I'd really like to buy the item. Replying to the CL email address just doesn't work. And ALL those ads I've tried to respond to can't be spam, can they???

Is it just me? I didn't see this issue addressed by CL in their FAQ or explanation of why you get errors in replying to their ads.

Any help would be appreciated so I can get back to buying useless bargains I don't really need.

That is sadly the faith of any overly popular, typically free-for-all web sites that is poorly secured and administered. A new one will eventually have to pop out of nowhere and continue the trend while the former will eventually die either by choice or due to lack of interest and traffic...

You have my sympathy.
I'm trying to divest myself of some items on CL, and all I've gotten
(save for one, which dropped out at last minute)
have been spammy people seeking my personal contact info.
So I'm on the other side of your situation, but just as stuck/frustrated.
