Facebook Busted in Clumsy Smear on Google - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/dailybeast/20110512/ts_dailybeast/14045_facebookbustedinclumsysmearattemptongoogle - broken link)

Good laugh, glad I never created a Facebook account; trying to capitalize the social network arena -- psssh. Google is god! How dare they.

What I found very amusing about the story is how Facebook was having stories planted accusing google of collecting information on people and making it public. Ummm, hello Facebook.....that is exactly what you do. lol
Neither of them have to do anything other than make the service available and sit back, the people post and publish all of their personal private life details themselves. In a few years, all of this crap that teenagers have been posting on Facebook and elsewhere is going to start resurfacing and biting them in the rear. The "not so innocent" pictures girls post of themselves, the stupid things guys did while drinking on spring break, the silly drama, threatening each other etc. Some of them will run for public office or apply for a high profile job or just simply tick off the wrong person and BAM here comes this ten year old junk from Facebook.

Don't think for a minute that Facebook isn't saving every single thing you post even if you delete it, so they can sell it to the highest bidder (CNN, TMZ, etc.) later on if the opportunity presents itself.

Yet another sign that Facebook won't be here in 10 years, while Google will.

Disagree. Only Facebook can tell me what my friends did last month on their vacation or show me pictures of their kids or let me know that they celebrated their anniversary at my favorite restaurant last week. If I care deeply about staying connected to that minutiae, then I have to stay with Facebook, because Facebook is the sole source for that info. My friends will probably never put that info online in a place where Google will find it, because they only want certain people to know that information.

The reason over 500 million people have joined Facebook is because they care about knowing what their friends are up to. Until there's another place to get that, they are handcuffed to Facebook.

I don't know Bo.....before Facebook there was My Space and other similar sites. In the 3 decades I've been online, there have been lots of swapping around as to what was actually popular at the time. People passed through a whole assortment of friendship/dating sites...including ICQ.

I'm not sure we will ever know how long something will remain when it comes to online adventures......

The facebook culture!

All I can say is it seems to me its a bunch of people posting images of themselves bragging on line.

Never have been much into the facebook culture but its no doubt HUGE

I think it will be around for a long long time for some reason people cling onto it like an addiction

I dont like the whole facebook deal but if some one wants to air all their laundy out for the entire world to see for eternity then so be it that is the choice they make and its their own personal choice

Well I never really cared for social network websites, I hope Google crushes Facebook in the near future.

Here's a list of them, List of social networking websites - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And yes, Google is expanding -- see GoogleBuzz. Friends have been urging me to get a Facebook account, I think I may start using GoogleBuzz so that they would have to.
