One of my jobs requires me to work from home while living in the US, but I'm thinking about moving abroad and buying a scrambler so my employer won't realize that I've left the US. This is a very large company, so I'm pretty sure they've got the means to check their employee's cyber-whereabouts.

If this is something I can actually pull off, what type of scrambler would be the best.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not familiar with a scrambler. Why not just use a proxy that is based in the US?

I'd be interested in what this scrambler is too....

Googled and saw many hits but they were concerning people asking about email scramblers to stop their spam....

(and scrambled eggs)

Proxy is a server. It acts as like a go between. People that want to hide protect their IP address for lets say downloading copyrighted movies would use a proxy. They would use a proxy service based in a different country. When someone checks the IP address their location shows up in the country where the proxy server is located.

Keep in mind that most scenarios of using a proxy involve private individuals. Most organization's IT controls can still see that you're using a proxy. For example, employers block porn, so you try to access it via a proxy. In many places that won't work either because the controls will also block proxy sites.

Your employer may also not accept connections from proxies. And furthermore, if you have a specific policy dictating that the network can only be accessed from withint the US - this may be a sign that they're probably watching those connections.

Not saying they can see you're outside of the US (they won't), but the fact that you're using a proxy may set off a red flag.

I'd think real hard before going down this road. Especially if you're working on a government contract.

They are a pretty fun ride. Not sure how it will help in this situation, though.

Only thing is, if the boss sees the history, he'll see "Hide my ass," instead. He might get the idea you are hiding something.
