If you are just wanting to take them off your page, just edit your pictures at Flamingo13 pointed out. If you posted some pictures you now wish you had not, there is no way to permanently and completely delete them. Facebook keeps copies of everything that goes on their database and when you agreed to their terms of service, you agreed that those photos became their property as well and they can do with them as they please. They can sell them to advertisers, they can sell them to news agencies, or whoever they want. Also, others that have access to your facebook could have copied them and saved them to their computers and there is nothing you can do about that because you posted them publicly. My point is, once you put it on facebook, technically it is forever and could resurface next week, next month, next year or even decades from now.
You are right, its not just facebook. Anywhere on the internet and it is forever.
