I know it's an old thread, but I wanted to bring the discussion back to HTML5 for those that are interested in learning it. I have been developing webpages since the mid 90s and I'm happy to say that out of all the HTML versions out there, HTML5 seems to me to be the easiest of the bunch to work with. For those of you that are new to HTML, learning HTML5 is a great step and there has never been a better time to get immersed into HTML!

I'm the OP on this thread (different account), and still haven't been able to do much with my pages (illness has slowed this project down). So, HTML5 is the newest, more sophiticated version of html? And what relation does HTML5 bear to CSS??

Think of HTML as the bones, and CSS as the flesh. CSS makes things pretty, HTML is your set of building blocks. They go hand-in-hand, and are not comparable.

mvintar,
I hope you recoup and get better soon.

What are you trying to do with your project?

Yes, HTML5 is the newest version of HTML. But, you can still code webpages with previous versions of HTML. You don't have to use/learn HTML5. It's just that HTML5 has added "features" that are more relevant to today's emerging mobile and web technologies. If you want to start fresh and develop sites that will be valid for the next 20 years or so, get crackin' with HTML5.

Again it provides formatting. On your browser click View >> Page Style >> No style,

That's for Firefox but the wording in IE is similar. That removes any CSS formatting and the browser uses it's own defaults.

I work in Email and HTML5 is not a step my industry is ready to take. If your doing simple web pages then you will be fine.
