Soon as they ask for any personal information or have you click anything within the email you KNOW it is fake.

Real notices from your bank(as an example)will tell you to call the number listed on your statement.

If it isn't personally addressed to you consider it fake and proceed accordingly.

Does this company have my email information?
What email address does the email originate?

Most of those listed are obvious, some require a bit of closer observation.
