Scaring children about the dangers of the Internet and blocking access to social-networking sites can do more harm than good, according to a report released Friday by a committee tasked by the U.S. government to explore online safety. [more]
A very good article!!!!!!

One thing i do know is BLOCKING just causes MOST people to try and get around stuff.. (Which solves nothing)

Education (rather than blocking) is better NO MATTER WHAT THE TOPIC IS!

The problem is that kids/teens know they are invinciable. One only has to watch the news about teens killed in MVA's, dead because of insane speeds and not wearing a seat belt because they actually see themselves as invincible.

No amount education is going to stop the lonely teen, subject of ridicule by their peers from believing the pedophile that provides what they want to hear to lure them into sneaking out to meet some sick creep.

Exactly.....

When wars are fought, who is in the front lines doing the all fighting and dying?

The old guys or the youngsters?

That's why they call it "the folly of youth"

I don't think you can approach either one of these by themselves and say one is better than the other. Like all things dealing with risk - you wan to apply things in layers. And in this case, the best approach would be to do both.

You filter - but then also educate on the reasons behind it.
