although, I am getting kinda annoyed how all these new technologies keep coming out, and they keep saying - "it will be commercially viable in 3 or 4 years..."

You car will be broadcasting your speed, etc. through its headlights and taillights to receptors on every street lamp, and your tickets for traffic violations will be emailed to your smartphone, and fines deducted from your checking automatically.

Few issues I see with this (although the article didn't really elaborate on the details..so I'm only going by what's in the article):

- You're going to need line of sight for this to work. Which puts it at a disadvantage to WiFi.

- "And security would be a snap—if you can’t see the light, you can’t access the data." - that's a pretty dumb statement. I can't see wifi signals either.... but I have no problem picking it up.

- "...faster than 10mbps..." How much faster? It may be faster than the average broadband connection... but the bottleneck with wifi as they stated isn't on the broadband side...its actually attaching to the LAN.

Not saying this is useless. You always have to applaud new thinking.... but to me this seems like almost a step back. How different is this from an upgraded infrared network....?
