So it says there's an update - no other option to update than to also get Google Chrome? I did update but then deleted Chrome - when I went to get online, I get a message that Firefox is no longer my default and do I want to change it? (I did make it FF) - what's up w/CC trying to force Chrome?

They usually put something extra added when upgrading or whatever, but usually there are "opt out" buttons. Also there's a version called "CCleaner slim" that doesn't try to give you extra baggage.

Always pay attention when installing software, especially free software. One of the ways they support the work they do (since very few users offer to send them money for their effort) is to offer to install other software - like Google Chrome. Since what you are using is free it's on you to pay attention and remove those checks from the boxes so the software they are offering isn't installed.

Some software makers are scumbags who install their crapware even when you tell them not to. Myheritage is one - Ccleaner is not.

Strange ...
I just updated CCleaner to 3.1.1.1541 and it did not ask me to install Google Chrome ...
Does that mean I am installing the *slim* version ?

I always download it from Filehippo.

Do you already have Chrome installed?

Nope, but I do remember a while ago where CCleaner had these added choices.
All you had to do was read the dialogues, and opt out. (Uncheck the the choices already checked for you ...)

As I mentioned, the last one did not ask to add anything.

LBNL.
Does anybody know what the real difference is between the *free* one and the *paid for* one ???

Updated my version the other day; opt'd out of Chrome, as I already had it...'new' CC and existing Chrome both run fine. Low tech here, too. ;>)

I always update from FileHippo and never had any problems with it.
Download CCleaner 3.11.1541 - FileHippo.com

For some reason (or I was too tired after work and missed it) this time I didn't have it in the boxes that are pre-checked. I use FileHippo as well.

Doesn't matter where you download it, lols - it's the same program regardless.

If you have chrome or have remnants of chrome it may opt out of asking you. Otherwise, uncheck box, done.
