I'm convinced wireless is bad for my health, so I decided to go back in time and have my internet cables hardwired in various rooms of the house. I'm paying a company, but I realized I don't know which types of cables are the best/most reliable etcetera.
I'd like to request cables that are the most resistant to "noise" and most reliable over time. Yeah, this isn't very scientific... But I alwasy think if I don't ask, the contractor will try to use some cheap crap.
I'd also like to know if there are advancements in connectors, or anything else I should know before having the wires run. Thanks in advance.
Most if not all new installations use Cat6 twisted pair. Older installations use mostly Cat5e. For extra interference protection, you can use shielded cable, but it's considerably more expensive and not always necessary.
Any twisted pair is going to have about the same ability to attenuate noise. The cancellation is inherent in the twist. Shield was used a lot more initially, but it can be a pain in the butt joint.
As for wireless being bad for your health, I question that but I'll leave it alone, since there are other benefits to having a wired system.

That's ok I know I'm a little nutty on that score, but actually feel "weird" if I'm in a room w/ a wireless connection for two long. Thx for the information about the "twisted pair."

There are "standards", which includes all standards for the connectors, cables, and 'how' it is installed. If your contractor installs CAT 6 wiring, Then you are good for 1Gbps, 10Gbps up to 55 meters (180 feet), which should be sufficient for any home, even Bill Gates home.

Any good cat 5 cable should work.
If you have money to burn, you can always go with cat 6, with both emi and rf shielding.
