I just started subscribing to some podcasts in itunes.
It updates every day, but unfortunately, it does so at 12:30 AM.

This mean by 5 PM the next day I am out of date, does anybody know how in itunes you can change the settings so that when it checks for updates, it does so at a different time?

You can manually update them by right-clicking on the podcast and updating.

Otherwise, under settings--> podcast I think there is a way you can tell it to do it every few hours.

Do you use an ipad/ipod/iphone? If so, I recommend the app Downcast. It's only a couple bucks in the store. I've got it on my ipad and it automatically goes out every 5 hours to check for me.
