Yeah, I've seen this scam reported before. Good thing you didn't fall for it, OP.

There's one I've gotten at least three times that shocked me the first time I received it. It was from "New York City Police Department." Basically it said that if I didn't pay my "ticket" a warrant would be issued for my arrest. Then it gave me info on how to send money.

I haven't been in New York since maybe 2004 and have never in my life driven there. These scammers are filth.
