I hate spammers but I would like to keep Texas Attys appraised as to State Bar issues as I'm an elected director. There are 90,100 attys in our state bar which is part of state govt. I am not selling anything.

I don't want to send out a mailout and have it go in spam boxes.

I use Microsoft Outlook.

1 Does it matter who my provider is? For instance is an email from AOL more likely to be tagged than say hotmail? Would a custom email address such as thomaslaw.com make a difference?

2, Are there triggers in the names themselves? Are certain names in email addresses more or less likely to be tagged as spam?

ConstantContact, but it isn't free.
Hotmail and AOL are not advisable if you want to get into mailboxes.

Email Marketing Solutions from Constant Contact

Alternatively, get an email address specifically for your messages, like info@BarDirector.info, and ask all members to put you on their allowed lists. Of course, most won't....

The filters are going to vary. I would use a custom address and website for that address. You could then give a link in the email to a private directory that kept a running list of email-outs by date and subject, along with content. Those who got the first email with the link could then opt out of further emails and just go to the link, or opt in to continue receiving. You would know the info was out there because anyone on the list could access the private directory on the website.

You don't have an email address for "texasbar.com" based on your position?

Thanks all. Asheville no and even if I did - my opinions are not necessarily those of the bar. Texas is different - the bar is mandatory and part of the state government. In other states its an association. In Texas the people at the top are wealthy civil attys who love telling the rest of us what to do and how much to pay - I ran against them and won. I can't send my opinions from the bar website ( none of the officers can)

If you expect to send 90K emails you're going to need you're own hosting services or one that specializes in email. If you're going to send bulk email you need to adhere to a lot of rules.

You could get domain and hosting services for as little as $5 a month. That will give you access to mailman which will manage your contact list and most importantly provides them with a way to opt out/in.
