In the last few days have twice had an experience with Google homepage that can only be called wacky, as well as very frustrating. If I had it, then so did the rest of the planet--unless? Google is my start up hompage, and out of the blue a strange new page jumped out at me. An ugly menu block on the left of the page with a bunch of junk and supposed shortcuts. Okay, could deal with that, but the major problem was that the gear shaped button at top right had vanished, the one that led to the search settings change page. It had vanished, and could not be found. Google prompts pointed to buttons and pages that did not exist. Since I detest Google instant and always turn it off at the start of a session, major annoyance. Quit for the night, and then, voila!, the next day the old format was back???

Things fine until a few hours ago, and then the new page was suddenly back. After about an hour of seeking and trying, finally found the search setting page that worked, and was able to bomb GI and set filter and page settings to my liking. To play it safe and avoid the hassle in the future, that page now resides in my favorites file. A few more clicks than before, but at least it works. Now the clincher; after running a full system scan with the AV and completely powering down and then back up, the old page is back. For how long is a mystery.

For those of you that also experienced this, what are your thoughts? Any speculation as to what Google is trying to do, and why the recent jumping back and forth of formats? This has me baffled, Google is usually very professional about such things, and to present a flawed product is unlike them.

I'm not experiencing these things. Why do you automatically assume google is at fault?

The page does change when you log in and out of your google account.

I've had to select to return to the "old look" several times in the past 2 -3 weeks. The new look "bites".

The few weeks on this PC, Google's homepage has randomly switched between the old and the new version. It's getting kinda irritating and to me makes Google look rather....unprofessional.

It's not random. I'm betting you're signing into a google product (android market, youtube, gmail, shopping, docs, etc etc etc .......), that affects what you see.
