Looking for either a gadget or program for a open WiFi too make it secured.Currently moving and will have free WiFi I presume it's a open for those with in the apartment complex. As I understand each tenant will have a password.. How do I know what I am doing on line is secure?

Why don't you find out first what hardware and encryption they use before doing anything else?

Depending on the hardware they use, you won't, and you really can't. You can surf HTTPS sites only, so that the traffic is encrypted, but if you're really concerned about your privacy/security, get your own private internet connection.

If every tenant has their own login, it could be that they're using an enterprise-level AP, which might incorporate cryptic traffic or a tunnel of sorts. You won't ever know unless you go ask them what they're using.

Yea, what they said. Security is a two way street.
The access point and the device accessing the network both must have the same type of security for this to work...
