DNS errors and Hughesnet
I periodically run into nonsense DNS lookup errors - for instance, I'll be here on the city-data forums and click from one forum to another, or to a thread, and get a DNS lookup error. I use Hughesnet, and have written some of it off to the latency issues, but that doesn't explain it all.
I use static IP on my local network, and three DNS Servers
C:\Documents and Settings\user>ipconfig/all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : DELL
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : TAP-Win32 Adapter V9
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.7
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 66.82.4.8 (Hughesnet)
202.62.124.238
129.250.35.250
In theory, any request for an outside DNS lookup gets stolen by the 7000S modem and rerouted through the Hughesnet DNS server (aka TurboPage redirect or cache)
So... I'm trying to find where the bumpkin in the works is. I've downloaded Fiddler, but not sure how much help that will be if the proxy is within the modem. Suggestions?

Problem with OpenDNS, is that Hughesnet may be flipping it by proxy into Hughesnet DNS servers. Been working on that. Thanks for the thought.
