If, from beyond the grave, Betty Friedan were to review the Facebook habits of the over-30 set, I am afraid she would be very disappointed in us. By this I mean specifically the trend of women using photographs of their children instead of themselves as the main picture on their Facebook profiles.

The better question is "Why is this a problem"? I have some friends who put up pictures as their pets, favorite movie characters, beach scenes, etc. as their photo. Honestly, though, I can't tell what the point of this article is. Is it some kind of satire or is the author really upset that women like people to see photos of their stupid kids so they use them as a profile pic.

To show any potential suitors she's fertile? Or to show ex-boyfriends that she would indeed eventually have sex?

Or more likely because some people's children so totally consume them they lose their own identity.

It's really annoying when you are looking for an old classmate and there are 30 different "Joann Fredricks" out there and the only way you can determine if this is the right one or not is by their profile picture.

A better question is why anyone would be on FaceBook anyway?

News, Why would a woman put a picture of her child’s face – instead of her own – as her profile picture on Facebook?

There have been instances of people selling the sex services of their children in trade for drugs.

Maybe she doesn't like the way she looks and would rather put something else up?

Facebook has legitimate uses if one is careful. As with any tool, it can work well for some, but not for others.

As to why someone would want to use a child as a profile pic ... why not? I've changed mine several times between various pics of myself and various other pics depending on what some of my friends are doing. Sometimes they start trends I find amusing.

If I want to use a picture of Underdog as my profile pic, should I clear it with you first?
