I too think that GMAIL is a good alternative to a yahoo email account.

I just switched over to Outlook. Microsoft is moving away from Hotmail and towards Outlook; hence, I feel I should move with the times. Also, my Hotmail account was created when I was a sophomore in college, and is not professional enough to put on a resume. Anyway, I love the change so far! I can even keep my old Hotmail account, just in case...I access Hotmail through outlook and have the two accounts linked. It is very easy to just sign into my new Outlook account and just be one-click away from accessing my old Hotmail account. With Microsoft trying to push people into Outlook and a very expansive online campaign, I think that Gmail will have its next biggest competitor very soon!

I don't understand Microsoft's naming mess. Hotmail, MSN, Live, and now Outlook. I switched to Outlook as well, actually you don't have any other choice. Still, I use my old MSN mail address and the Outlook web interface is still located at live.com

I agree that the name Hotmail was a bit unprofessional (although the name meant something different originally), Outlook does not appeal to me, either, too long, plus I don't like the association with the client of the same name. I like MSN, it is short, and the page where one can open MSN accounts is still live

I miss the integration with the old MSN messenger, though. Skype sucks, uninstalled it after testing, so I use the primitive messenger within the Outlook mail page these days.

Yahoo sucks, I don't want to see ad banners on my email page. I guess Yahoo is on a mission of self-destruction, much like AOL some time ago...

Agree re: naming mess.

Aren't was all pretty oblivious to online ads nowadays?
I couldn't name an ad I saw on my Yahoo page from yesterday.

They all have pros and cons. I hate Gmails "conversation view" and they refuse to allow the more traditional inbox. Which annoys the crap out of me.
Yahoo annoys me with the login process. Login. Click on Mail. It takes you to this mail overview page. Then you have to click Mail again. Really? When I click mail I want to see my inbox...

Same here, I never liked that conversation view. I am old-fashioned and want my mails listed all individually, one after the other so I can delete them individually.

Don't know, but the last time I saw a friend using her Yahoo mail account, there were ads along the right side of the screen.
On Outlook I don't see any ads, neither banners, nor links (I am not sure, maybe there are ads and my extended host file happens to eliminate them (just like I heard some people say there are ads on CD, but I never see any), dunno.)

On CD you do not see ads if you are logged in. Log out and you will see a few.
As for Outlook I'd bet there are no ads right now. They want market share so badly.
They will find a way to work some in later.
