Anyone here know how to set up online fund to raise hearing aid $ for a senior gent? Trying to raise about $7K to buy 2 hearing aids for an older gent who can't afford hearing aids and needs them.

If you wanted to go as simple as possible you could just set up a pay pal account for it, that allows for some customizing of the page.

Kickstarter and Indiegogo are the bigger ones.

Am I the only one wondering about the profit margin in hearing aids? Back in the 1970s, they cost a lot because of the miniaturization involved. I don't understand why they STILL cost that much when you can get an entire MP3 player for $20.

Economy of scale. MP3 players are off-the-shelf and need no customization. And the manufacturer sells a ton of them. Neither of those are true about hearing aids.

Yes, we wonder about the profit margin. Why do they cost $7K per pair! And, why doesn't health insurance, Medicare included, pay for them?

I'd agree but it's medical device so it's regulated by the government.... you know how that works. I've seen hearing aid type devices advertised for a few bucks on TV but I noticed they were very careful not to call them hearing aids.

Having said that if I recall correctly when my Father got them he was fitted for them etc. It's like eyeglasses, they are prescribed. They may have even made a mold for them.
