HDBaseT is the standard for transmitting everything over ethernet cable, including enough power to run a television. It would essentially replace all other cables in a home as far as computers, video, and dvr's or dvd players, game consoles, and streaming devices. Even phone service could be connected via ethernet, and then individual handsets would use DECT 6.0 wireless technology.

The technology seems much better suited to commercial settings rather than residences. You could develop social spaces, library substitutes, and casinos based around powered ethernet connections. I think security would be much easier to control than with wireless devices.

The industry has been discussing HDBaseT for a few years now. I recall seeing it at CES several years ago. If I remember correctly, they were aiming to have it in devices back in 2010. It would be nice to see it come around.

Ultimate Guide to HDBaseT at ISE 2013: What’s Showing & What’s Not - Spotlight Article from CE Pro

As with all these wunder products I won't hold my breath they will ever reach widespread sales....

Brian posts at least 30 of these maybe wunder science breakthroughs in a month, and it might take decades if ever that they become reality....

My reality? With the car I just bought it has wireless connectivity and when parked next to my apt I can connect to my router and do all the fun things with a broadband Internet connection.....
