One of my computers is running Windows XP which will not allow me to use Internet Explorer beyond version 8. Sadly, IE8 isn't really a modern browser so I've started using Google Chrome on this machine.
Google Chrome is really nice and surprisingly works much better with XP than IE8 does. This is just one more thing that is causing me to become disillusioned with Microsoft. The other is the upcoming Xbox One video game console which is potentially less powerful than Sony's PS4 yet cost $100 more.
Anywho - any tips on how to get the most out of Google Chrome are greatly appreciated!
The Google Chrome Store is your friend for customizing the browser. In the upper right-hand corner, the three bars -> Tools -> Extensions. There are a lot to choose from. I could not live without Adblock, and also like Forecastfox. Most of the others I use are related to REST API development (Advanced REST API Client, JSON Formatter, etc.)
IE8 is extremely old. I don't think it's fair to compare it to modern versions of Chrome and use that as a reason why you have lost faith in MS. IE8 is a POS. Mostly because it's old as heck. Sadly, it's also one of the most commonly used MS browsers.

I haven't lost faith in MS because IE8 is a POS but rather because XP won't allow you to use a newer version of IE.

XP is very quickly approaching end of life, it makes no sense to limit newer versions of IE so it would be compatible with XP when it's going to be dead in 8 months.

Exactly. XP is 12 years old, and several versions behind. It was great at the time, but it's outdated technology and can't be supported forever.

I don't avoid using IE because it doesn't run on XP (I'm using Windows 7), but because I can think of 1/2 dozen browsers that are superior. None of which seem to be "limited" by their support of XP .
It never was a question of MS being "able" to support old technology. It is simply part of their marketing strategy to break the support to force users into buying upgrades. I've had to deal with the fallout from that policy many times, and a few guys have made some bux "fixing" those breaks. TameDos is a perfect example.

Yeah, it's funny how Chrome and Firefox run infinitely better on my XP machine than IE8 does.
I'd go ahead and upgrade to Windows 8 but I hear the major revision is going to make it much better so I'll probably wait till then.
BTW, I also have another computer that's running Windows 7 so that one with XP is really just a backup.
