If you're using Android, Chrome has an option for "New Incognito Tab". You won't end up with targeted searches for things you do in that tab.

You don't need a VPN. That's crazy.
Pcity and I answered this question. Next?

Yeah, well that's your opinion which is worth nothing as far as I'm concerned since you want to beat people down every time they suggest something. A VPN will help keep browsing private on a public wi-fi from other people on the same network. Do they NEED it? That's up to THEM not you or I, but advising them of the choice was all I was trying to do. Quit trying to dictate what people need, and maybe try suggestions?

I've given a lot good advice on this forum.
The OP asked why he was getting ads. PCtiy and I effectively answered that. Fact.
A VPN would in no way prevent targeted advertising in a browser. Fact.

If you want to discuss VPN and should people use it that is really a topic for another thread and has little to do with the question at hand and WOULD NOT ALWAYS prevent targeted advertising. Using an anonymous browser might:

You continue to chime in on threads and provide answers... that's great. Thanks for adding to the discussion. But too often you chime in without addressing the real question or that persons needs.

I'm not going to argue. Don't take anything I say too personally. I have no hidden agenda and only seek to educate and help. I am a professional and I take helping people very serously.
And I'm good at it.

Whether you notice it or not, you have a tendency to talk down to people who are just as knowledgeable as you, other than myself so don't pat yourself too hard peregrine. Sounding boisterous is what happens when you think you have to voice how good you "think" you are. You give your advice and I'll give mine, and the op's can choose what works best for them.

The problem is the VPN advice has nothing to do with the topic at hand. OP specifically asked about targeted advertising. When giving technical advice, it is important to establish clear cause-and-effect patterns and not go off on tangents. If OP follows your advice and uses a VPN while using public WiFi, he will still get targeted advertising because the targeted advertising has nothing to do with the fact that he used public Wifi.

The op is probably more concerned that something got installed than about the advertising itself?
After all, if ads are going to be there it doesn't much matter what they are for.
