if i dont need a fast connection, i use hide my ip, a free proxy
If I need a fast connection (downloading, gaming, etc) I use Hide My Ass...they have been around for years and have a 30 day money back guarantee. they have a 43% off promotion posted here
There are also other big name services out there, but i don't have much experience with them you can read more about them at this hide ip online blog
And be warned, anonymizers aren't capable of making it impossible to find out who you are, only more difficult. If you're trying to hide from a family member or nosy neighbor, this should work fine, if you're involved in illegal activities that pique the interests of the right government agency (police, FBI, NSA) they will likely find out who you are if they want to know badly enough.
I agree, TOR is probably the best choice for what is wanting to be done. Just make sure not to do any kind of Banking, other financial business while using TOR. Passwords can be compromised sometimes.
I've been using ProXPN for a couple years now and haven't had much issue with it. Their Proxy services change from time to time. Some drop off, some are added on. But for the most part, it works pretty well and is fast for VPN service.
Best way to hide it is to use VPN service that will redirect your traffic via proxies. I would recommend you to try HIDE-MY-IP...
VPN is the best option, although there are different levels of secure VPN: some are free but not great; while others you have to pay a fee for, but are generally quite secure and do the job of hiding your IP
