Quote:
“I hope there are people who love the feature and post more,” says Facebook’s product manager excitedly about the new feature they just added. We suspect people will not… As The WSJ reports, starting Wednesday, the app has the ability to recognize music and television shows playing in the vicinity of users. Read that again… ‘in the vicinity of users’. In other words, Facebook is unveiling its own NSA-style eavesdropping feature (on you and all your friends). Don’t worry though… even if users decide not to share what they’re hearing or watching, Facebook will hold onto the data in anonymous form, keeping tabs on how many users watched particular shows. Sound familiar? [more]
Screw them!!

I WONT EVER HAVE A SHEEPBOOK ACCOUNT AND IM GETTING PRETTY NERVOUS BEING AROUND SOMEONE WHO HAS A SMART PHONE WITH THIS CRAP ON IT!!!!

This is just their way of telling the users that they are doing this so that they can say yes we are using peoples cameras and microphones in the hope that more serious questions can be allayed before they are even asked!! (But most everyone on FB is a SHEEPLE and doesnt care about thier privacy.. BUT THEY ARE PUTTING THOSE OF US THAT DO @ RISK ALSO BEING AROUND THEM WITH THIS GARBAGE!!)

Dude ! What makes you think that you lead the type of life that they would want to spy on ?
You are not the dude that they are looking for.
So what if you listen to the radio or watch T.V.
The majority of people on this planet lead such mundane lives that it would put the people to sleep that were spying on.

So that makes it ok for them to watch everything you do and keep records somewhere?

A lot of people have said that if you're not doing something wrong, you don't have anything to hide. Yet, we all put up fences around our houses and close the blinds by our windows.

These internet companies seem to have no idea what decency is. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them flame out in another few years from a huge backlash.

FB's business model seems totally unsustainable. I think the general idea is, they are suppose to collect data on you to sell to advertisers. But at some point, the data collection is going to cross the line, get creepy. You can't take it to infinity.

The issue is that the info is collected and stored - probably for later use in case "background info" is needed for whatever use the governing authorities deem necessary.

Use the wrong word on FB or other social media and you could find yourself on the no-fly list with no explanation. Under the Patriot Act the individual has no rights. A simple matter of joking around on a social media site could put you in deep trouble.
We should never forget that the data on the web is stored forever. Information not used today could become standard data used some time in the future. Most of us have posted something we wish we hadn't. Twenty years from now the that same poor choice of words can easily come back to crush you especially if you expected your post to be private.

Not having anything to hide has nothing to do with privacy. Everyone should have the right to privacy unless it can be proven they are engaged in illegal activity. The actions of the NSA and other similar agencies makes the assumption that all citizens are suspects. FB is playing right along with the complete loss of privacy.

It wasn't Facebook but just the computer that I think collects information. We recently stayed in a motel and saw a bug in the room and wondered if it was a bedbug. Don't think it was after we did a search to see what a bedbug looked like. But the next few times we clicked on the computer we had adds wanting to let us know how to get rid of bedbugs. Do you think there is information somewhere telling people we have bedbugs? LOL
