I just uninstalled avast antivirus after a number of unsuccessful attempts to prevent it from auto-updating. I verified the auto-update feature was off, closed out and restarted, only to have it gleefully tell me in a pop-up it had auto-updated even though I told it not to. When I uninstalled it it then popped open the browser and said that it was sorry to see me go. Awwww, poor babies. Reminds me of some religious cult behaviors.

AVG? Is it still slow bloatware?

I use Avira. Recently installed it and love it. Highly rated. Just curious but why wouldnt you want your antivirus program to update?

I have ten gigs per month limit on satellite internet and I need every bit I can find. I also don't need some fecal program announcing it pooed while I am juggling twenty variables in my mind during programming and trying to concentrate.

Try Avira and let me know if you like it. Doesnt slow my computer down at all and no announcements. Lots of options for customizing.

I don't like AVG, and I don't think it protects effectively.
I tried Avira, Emissoft and Bitdefender, and think they do a better job.
Check them out and decide which is best for you (depends what settings, scan types and options you want)
Currently I have Bitdefender and have no problems with it.
