Lately, I've been getting spam emails (I admit I still have AOL as email, I've had forever and folks have that) - anyway, when I report it as spam, I sometimes get a message asking if I want to unsubscribe - I never subscribed to this junk in the first place! Is this an AOL thing or just common to spammers? Just curious.

If the spam messages are asking if you want to 'unsubscribe', do not hit 'yes'. If you do, they will know that you are reading their garbage and you will get more. If there is a site that constantly sends spam, you can block them. Go to tools, internet options, privacy tab, sites, add site you want to block.

If you are sending mass email from a commercial site you are required to include a "unsubscibe" link. If it's a legitimate site that you have provided your email address too use the link and you should stop getting email from them.

If it's regular old spam as already mentioned don;t use the link because you'll just be confirming it's an a active email address.

It's AOL asking if I want to unsubscribe after I've reported the message as spam. I know not to respond that way to the spammer itself.
