I've been meaning to stop using ggl and try to be as anonymous as possible when doing my searches. Not that I have anything to hide - it's a personal preference. I've found this one: private.me. It says you have more control when creating an account and modifying your settings - but I have not done that yet.

What is your preferred search eng?

Tor. The "secret" web. The "deep" web. People talk a lot of **** about the deep web and think it's filled with nothing but child porn, graphic violence, drugs, hitmen, etc. True, it's all on there...but you have to search for it. It doesn't just pop up out of nowehre. And yes, you wiull be completely anonymous and can even anonymously make transactions with bitcoins which are virtually untraceable.

The program you want for this is called Tor.

I agree with the guys above I would use duckduckgo.com for what you are looking for. I started using it several months back and only use Google when I need to, usually to compare search results.

Dogpile Web Search

I've been using dogpile for more than fifteen years. It gives me results from multiple search engines without ads. I find results when I read that others can find nothing. It's called a metasearch. The number of search engines producing results varies, but it's always the best.

Fifteen years with Arfie tells me that that's a bunch of bologna. Academic librarians love it. I always think of Google as the consumer search engine.

I have yet to experience any of the problems claimed, or any other problem.

I've used Ixquick https://www.ixquick.com for about 2 years and I really like it. So far as I know their privacy claims are true.
I stay away from Google except for Maps.
