Twice this week I had the wifi connection go down on my iPad, iPhone and the Samsung tv .. Roku not working, and the 'SmartHub' thing not connecting. Meanwhile, in another room, the desktop was fine, loaded IE and everything.
I didn't call the cable company (I'm bundled) because the internet itself worked, but no other devices could receive it.
Both the ipad & iPhone showed 2 bars lit on the little semi circle connection indicator at the top, but Safari only showed message that there was no connection to the server. I tried shutting them off and restarting.
I unplugged the router for a minute with no change.
This morning everybody's friends again and the connections are fine. What could cause this?
I'm running Windows8.1 on a 6 mo. old Dell desktop,
Thanks!
Lots of devices operate on the same frequencies as wifi. Wireless baby-monitor camera systems are notorious for their ability to swamp a lot of wifi frequencies at one time and ruin the ability to connect. If your next-door neighbor's expecting a baby, maybe they tested their new camera at that time you had the issue?
Oh, so it could be something outside my own system set-up? That's good to know. I don't have close neighbors that would have any reason for a baby monitor, more like a LifeAlert system, (and I'm right up there with them. lol)

It could be an issue of bandwidth. How many active connections can your router actually sustain, and what is your ISP actually allowing you to do with the connection?
I've got 60 mpbs through Charter and haven't had any problems before. The most usage I would have is being on the phone, streaming Content on tv and having Safari open on the iPad at the same time. But when it happened last night I only had Hulu + streaming through the tv.

Could it be that the other devices were upgrading themselves automatically? I know on Android I can set it up so that apps upgrade themselves automatically while on WiFi (and that they cannot upgrade themselves on mobile), do you use Dropbox or any other cloud apps that would keep devices in sync with each other (or devices with a personal computer)? There is a lot to consider. Good that it is not happening anymore.
Not familiar with Dropbox, but I do have apps that update. I'm thinking that the Samsung Smart tv hub could be the culprit, because, first of all it's always flukey in some way, for ex. I have to watch Netflix thru Roku, it won't load content on the hub. So if the tv was deciding to update itself or its apps, it would be a possible offender.
Thanks for this thread, it was helpful. Our router is only 1-2 years old (works much better than the previous one) and last week the computers worked fine on the wifi but our cell phones either dropped off completely or the signal was poor. This was sporadic, happened a few afternoons, and seems to be better now. I don't think I will ever figure out why it does this.
