I am running win 8 and am able to get my mail from the charms section but I cannot connect to any web page directly. Troubleshooting shows no problem and it shows me connected to the Internet. Can anyone help me?

This could be caused by any number of issues, malware being one of them. Download and run Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software

Get the free version, make sure you update it, then run a scan, post back the results.

It seems that IE is just not working. When I reset IE, I can bring up Bing but I cannot get to a site. I get the message " waiting for site o respond" or "page cannot be displayed". I can send and receive email, but Netflix charm will not connect either.

Check your internet options and make sure that your proxy settings are not checked. Possibly a malware.
A last resort would be to restore to an earlier time and ultimately reset windows 8 using the option;

Change PC settings---->Update and recover----> Recovery---> Refresh your PC without affecting your files"

Thanks all. I finally refreshed last night and everything seems fine now. The only reason I can come with is an issue with Windows 8.1 and IE 11. I had different issues a few months ago after an update. A refresh worked then too. What a pain!
