Interesting, but encryption is already free, if you don't mind using a self signed cert.

The big question is just how well supported this system will be. If you don't get Google, Microsoft and Mozilla on board and including the root certs with their browsers, then this will be effectively useless.

This also doesn't appear to support the "green bar" that people have come to know. I seriously doubt that they're going to be doing the kind of verification required to get that type of cert if they're not charging for them, so there's that.

I'm also not so sure about their automated system for creating certs and configuring the server for them. How does that tool know whether or not it's going to break my setup? There are tons of third party applications out there that manage/mess with apache config files, and something modifying those files outside of those systems could present some real issues.

All that said, I'm interested and will be keeping an eye on the project. I currently pay about ten bucks per year for my certs, which is basically nothing, so it's going to have to impress me quite a bit if I'm going to mess with a process that I know works well and doesn't cost hardly anything.
