A friend noticed that there is a # sign after her name at the top left of her Facebook page (where it says "Edit profile"). She said she noticed it in Firefox and now sees it with Safari (she uses an Apple machine).

Does anybody know why it would say "mensaguy #" or "mensaguy#" at the top of her own Facebook page?

She afraid Facebook is following her, and I've not seen this happen before, so I'm asking for help.

How do I use hashtags?

Hashtags turn topics and phrases into clickable links in your posts on your personal Timeline or Page. This helps people find posts about topics they’re interested in. To make a hashtag, write # (the number sign) along with a topic or phrase and add it to your post. For example:
  1. I just saw the cutest puppy! #dog

Thanks for the reply. I haven't created any hashtags on Facebook, but my friend may have. Maybe that symbol means she has created hashtags. I'll ask her.

Uh... hashtags go in front, though.
#baddog
#CityDataRocks
Things like that.

Not sure why she would think FB is following her. They follow all of us. lol

She has never created or used a hashtag. She told me this morning she wouldn't know how to make one or what to do with it if she did.

Clicking on her personal hashtag would lead others to her Facebook page, I believe. (I don't use Facebook very much.).

I don't think so. When I look at her page, I don't see it. SHE sees it at the top left of her "Home" page, up there where it shows your own name, profile picture, and has "Edit Profile" under it. It's AFTER her name.

Have her try another browser. Maybe even another PC.
This is not normal.

She did. She was using Firefox, noticed it, logged in with Safari and then it showed up there too.

Here's her original question to me:
Quote:
Why do I have a # after my name now on Safari? I never got it before until tonight. Maybe because I shared something from my aunt? It's been on firefox for a long time that little # you know in the address line?? Just wondering what the heck it is and why I have it.
The details about where it showed up are in earlier posts.

Ohhhhhh. Misunderstood. The Address line. That's normal, actually.
I thought you meant on the page itself.

It has to do with... ah... forget what it's called.

Found it:

Hate to point to Yahoo as a source, but...
