Hi CD's,

I've purchased my domain name and have hosting on my friend's server. My friend has completely dropped the ball on assisting me with getting my site live. Time for me to do it myself. I've started other websites in the past using Yahoo and their drag and drop editors. However, I know there are better hosting/web design software deals than using Yahoo out there.

Please shoot me some hosting and software building names, suggestions. I really appreciate it!

Thank you!!

I would like to know that myself. You didnt say if you wanted a free service or are willing to pay for it? and if you will pay then how much ? I just found these on the internet do not know much about them .

Here are some links to check out. I also think Google offers free web hosting but do not know much about it either

Thank you for the links. I was googling them too and feeling overwhelmed. I am looking for a free template, WYSIWYG, drag drop editor.

TheCoalman - file transfer protocol? Uploading images/text/code to the server, right?

Personally, I'd install a CMS / Blog like Wordrpress, and then add content.

What type of site will it be and what features do you require?

If you want a drag and drop type editor then most of the hosting companies have something of that type. Installing WordPress or something similar would be better for the site but it isn't as easy as the drag and drop type of site builders. Wordpress is however probably the easiest CMS (content Management System) to learn outside of using the D&D type builders.

Some inexpensive hosting companies with drag and drop site builders included:
iPage.com
fatcow.com
godaddy.com
+ Many more.

Any plaintext editor other than Windows Notepad

HTML for Dummies

That's right. Coding and debugging by hand, with the keyboard. Past generations of Web "developers" built entire sites that way and you can too. You learn it by doing it, not by selecting icons in some mousebound automated HTML editor. The only thing that teaches you how to do is move stuff around on a screen.

Wordpress is probably the biggest piece of insecure, barely alpha-grade S that still is not ready to have even seen a public release. Why it's in such wide use is beyond my level of comprehension. Don't spread the disease! Avoid it at all cost!

Headway Drag and Drop WordPress Website Builder

Might help you with WordPress.

But, unless you have a particular requirement, I would probably use one of the free WordPress themes, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015(coming next month.)
