Anonymizers, Proxies and security
Is it true that when you post on a message board forum they can get your home address or phone number from the info in your original sign-up?
If they can ban people doesn't that mean they know private info about the poster? And, the free anonymizer and isp proxy services, do they actually work?
Only asking because, in this day and age, you need to consider family security when the teens are involved in message boarding.
What is the best way to assure someone can't get your young person's info when they're posting on social sites?

Do not provide personal information when signing up. Most sites, even social sites do not require that a person give a phone number or address or even their real name, so if you don't have to, then don't.
Like the days of old when a child came of that age and you have to give the birds and the bees talk, so too with the prevalence of the internet and information and what to give out and what to keep personal.

Got it. But I was really asking can they get it electronically without you offering it to them? Like by tracing your sign-up email back.

Pretty tough to do if you use something like hotmail since you don't give any info. The only time you are associated with the email account is when you're logged in, so unless someone is watching that account 24/7 and can track you logging in, no.
Bit of a long shot.
