Advertisements

I've noticed a significant increase in the advertising, pop-ups, etc when online lately, Is it the changes in 'net and / or providers, or is it something I did (like making the wrong click) ? I realize that since I gotta tablet, I've mis-clicked a whole lot more than with my mouse and desktop. It's gotten to a point that I can't even read a relevant news story without trying to get around all the pop-ups and margin ads (and it's mostly junk that I may have or may have not shown any interest in at one time).

Can I simply change a setting ? If so, walk me thru it, gently now ...

You want free stuff? Ads bring you free stuff. Suck it up. It is really that annoying? IOt certainly doesn't bother me in the least, and if something I use gets too ad heavy, I find something else.
Great to live in this day and age...

To give an idea of just how out-of-control ads are, I just installed a tivo Roamio OTA PVR. As one of the features, it can search for stuff on Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, or YouTube. A musical number in a show we were watching in an OTA recording seemed off, so I pulled up the 90 second song clip on YouTube to compare. The first comparison clip played, and I went "KEWL! This is a feature I might use!" I then tried to pull up a second comparison of the 90 second song and - I s**t you not - it started an EIGHT MINUTE advertisement which could not be bypassed. I immediately went to settings and disabled that crap.

It is a sad commentary when Google sells the ads on YouTube, then has to rebuild the Chrome browser to take them out.
